Frequently asked questions

How do I know how many cords I should use for each exercise on my Pilates reformer?
The number of resistance cords you use is determined by the exercise and your workout level-basic or level 1, intermediate or level 2, and advanced or level 3. The workout videos that come with each Stamina reformer and the reformer videos you purchase from www.staminaproducts.com specify the number of resistance cords to use with each exercise, but use the number of resistance cords that challenge you without compromising your form. If the exercise is too easy, add a cord. If it is too hard, take a cord off.

How do I adjust the rope length for my Pilates reformer?
The latest Stamina reformer models' ropes have clips that attach to rings on the side of the reformer frame under the sliding platform. To adjust length, simply unclip and move the clip to the ring that gives you the proper rope length.

Older Stamina reformer models are adjusted by untying the ropes from the hand straps and retying them to the desired length.

With my Pilates reformer, how close should my shoulders be to the shoulder pads?
Your shoulders should be snug against the shoulder pads, but not pushed hard against them.

Should I use a lubricant on my Pilates reformer's rollers?
If your rollers are making noise or not rolling smoothly, first make sure your frame is aligned correctly. If the alignment is correct or if you have roller noise after adjusting the frame, use silicon spray on the steel roller track.

What is the purpose of the Box and Pole?
The Box and Pole is used with your Pilates reformer. The Box and Pole is used beyond the basic or Level 1 stage with some Pilates exercises to make them more challenging.

The Box is placed on the sliding platform so your body is raised off the platform creating a different, more difficult workout angle. The pole is used for stability. A strap is also included when you purchase your Box and Pole. The strap attaches to the footboard of your reformer for abdominal work using the Box and Pole.

How do I fold my Pilates reformer?
Remove the tension cord assemblies from the slots in the front frame and slide the cushion assembly toward the rear frame. Turn the Pilates machine on its side and move the front frame toward the rear frame until it is in a folded position. Secure the Pilates by inserting the locking pin into the rear frame.

How do I get a replacement for my Pilates basic video?
To order replacement videos for the Pilates machines, call our Customer Service department at 1-800-375-7520.

Can I get a stand for my Pilates reformer?
A stand can be added to most Stamina reformers. The stand raises your reformer about 10 inches off the floor so you will be able to perform more advanced exercises.

Stamina makes three stands that can be purchased on this website or by calling a Stamina customer service representative at 1-800-375-7520. These stands are easy to assemble and disassemble and fit your reformer solidly so your Pilates reformer workouts are safe and stable.

The Pilates stand (model #55-4150) is made to be used with the Pilates Premier reformers (models #55-5510 and 55-5510A), the Pilates Stand (model #55-4050) is made specifically for the Pilates Performer 4000 and the Pilates Performer 4500 JP reformers, and the tan Pilates stand (model #55-4100) is manufactured for the Pilates Performer reformer (model #55-4300).

Where can I find the model number of the product?

The model number consists of two numbers followed by a hyphen, four more numbers, and possibly a letter (for example, 55-1111 or 05-4040A). This number can be found in three places:

1) The outside of the box directly under the bar code.
2) The lower right hand corner of the front cover of the owner's manual.
3) Most products have a sticker with the model number, serial number, and customer service toll-free number located on one of the frame pieces of the unit.

It seems as though I am missing some hardware needed to assemble the product I purchased, what should I do?
First, take all parts out of the box and positioned in front of you. Move any packaging material out of the way, but do not dispose of it until the machine is assembled and functioning properly.

Next, begin with Step 1 of the assembly process reading each step carefully. The instructions specifically give the name, dimensions, and part number of the items needed. When you finish reading the instructions, you will have inventoried all your parts. If you are missing a part, please contact us or choose Replacement Parts and order your missing part online. The item(s) will be shipped to you.

The Hardware Illustration page in the front of the owner's manual is for reference only. This page is provided to help identify the various types of hardware used in the assembly steps. The Parts List page in the back of the Owner's Manual is a list of every component used to make this product complete. This page is provided to help identify parts for future replacement.

How do I inflate my exercise ball?
Remove the plug from the deflated ball. Attach the hose to the blue nozzle on the pump. Then attach the small inflation nozzle to the hose. Wrap the measuring tape around the ball with the holes over the air hole on the ball. Insert the nozzle into the air hole of the ball and inflate the ball by squeezing the pump. When the measuring tape is taut, the ball is inflated the proper amount.

How much should I inflate my exercise ball?
Inflate the ball until it is equal to the size of the measuring tape.

Will my exercise ball lose air over time?
Yes, as you use your exercise ball it will lose a very small amount of air. Keep the foot pump and measuring tape so you can keep your exercise ball at the correct size.

How do I get the plug out of the ball?
We suggest using the lip of a spoon to pry the plug up until you can grip it to pull the plug from the ball with your fingers.

How do I deflate my exercise ball?
To deflate the exercise ball simply remove the plug and attach the pump's red nozzle to the opening in the ball. Use the foot pump until the desired amount of air has been released.

How do I know what size exercise ball I need?
For the most effective workout, it is important that your exercise ball is the correct size. Your height determines the diameter of the ball you need to use.

The 55 cm (21.6") diameter Exercise Balls fit heights 4'8" to 5'6".
The 65 cm (25.5") diameter Exercise Balls fit heights 5'7" to 5'11".
The 75 cm (29.5") diameter Exercise Balls fit heights 6' and over.
